Association of Health Professions in Ophthalmology
Welcome to the home page of the Association of Health Professions in Ophthalmology.
AHPO is an organisation that represents the different professions that provide treatment and care for patients with eye diseases.
Clinical Competency Framework
The Ophthalmology Common Clinical Competency Framework (CCCF) provides standards and guidance for the knowledge and skills required for non-medical eye healthcare professionals to deliver patient care
Career Pathway
Until now there has been no nationally approved job titles, education and training programmes and career path for ophthalmic support staff. This will now change. Ophthalmic support staff who undertake assessments and diagnostic tests in eye clinics are part of the wider NHS Healthcare Science workforce. The specialism to which they belong is Ophthalmic and Vision Science, which is part of the Physiological Sciences division of the Healthcare Science Workforce.
